This is an elegant product, with functional design. Installation is fairly simple. Two draw backs: the cable makes installation awkward as it puts stress on the drain and over flow fittings. For easiest install remove the cable. The biggest draw back comes when/if you plan on testing the plumbing for inspection. The cable design makes standard test plugs unusable, and Kohler does not provide a Test Kit for this product. Your plumber will need to get creative in order to perform a standing water test for inspection.

This drain was easy to assemble. It only takes 1/4 turn of the top piece to open and close it. A simple unscrewing of the drain piece works to remove any hair that might build up. I put this in a mobile home, in a deep tub, and it looks and works great. I had to get two kinds of glue as the four joints were PVC to PVC and then it was PVC to ABS for the drain plumbing below it.

Could decide between cable and pop up drain. But went with this one based on reviews. I tried to find a less expensive version but it doesn’t exist. I didn’t want to sacrifice the clean aesthetic of my renovation for a few bucks.

The chrome finish is nice and the rotate to open and close the drain is unique - no lever to move...

The chrome finish is nice and the rotate to open and close the drain is unique - no lever to move up and down, it looks sleeker. The water going down is a bit noisy as the drain doesn't pop up very much but it works fine.

Leak Problem?

Just had my bathroom remodel finished. Had one of these drains installed because i liked the cable Idea and the drain looked nice. All the reviews were very favorable also. After my contractor hooked up the plumbing and drain he tested everything. He let me know he didn't think the drain was holding water. So with everything finished I took my first bath. and yes when I shut the water off I can hear the drain leaking. It's not a huge leak but you can hear it gurgling at the dial where the over flow hole is.I turned the dial back and forth afew times and it seemed to slow down where you can't hear it unless you put your ear close to the dial. Before I fiddled with the dial I did notice a loss of water. Is mine defective?I'm only giving 3 stars for now ( for looks,ease of operation, and ease of install.) but I think this problem can be easily fixed and easily I hope. If so I'll update my review. But for now....

This style drain is new to me ,I have high hopes for it. The fact that in comes in different finishes was a plus .

The quality of the materials, chrome, and mechanism is excellent, but the installation is not the common slip joint plumbing found on most tub drains.

Works well so far

My contractor installed this for an 18-inch tub, and he didn't complain. I had read other reviews of cheaper bath drains and they didn't impress me, so I opted to spend a little more for this one. The chrome handle is a little duller than the chrome on the stopper part, but it works well enough. The stopper also spins so you can get the water off it easy (I'm still at the early stages where I want everything to stay nice and shiny, so I wipe the stopper and handle dry).
